Remarkable only for its historic teaming of four all-time terror gurus all trashed in tiny roles. Cast includes Vincent Cost, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Desi Amaz, Jr., John Carradine, Sheila Keith, Julie Peasgood, and Richard Todd. (96 minutes, 1983)
China Nine Liberty 37: This is a mystifying Western in which railroad tycoons spare a gentleman from gallows in trade for killing another gunfighter. The gunfighter’s girl falls for the killer and helps do his evil work. Title refers to the signpost giving distance to 2 close-by towns. Cast includes Warren Oates, Fabio Testi, Jenny Agutter, and Sam Peckinpah. (102 minutes, 1978)
Down and Out in Beverly Hills: Bum moves in with obsessive, nouveau-riche family and takes over their lives. Smooth, often ludicrous, however unusually evident satire for Mazursky who additionally appears as one of Dreyfuss’ fat-feline buddies. There are some good, excellent behaviors, albeit Mike the Mutt effortlessly robs the film. Cast includes Notch Nolte, Richard Dreyfuss, Bette Midler, Little Richard, Tracy Nelson, and Alexis Arquette. (103 minutes, 1986)
Solar Crisis: Futuristic sci-fi thriller with Matheson leading a spare-the planet mission to the sun to stop a solar flash from annihilating the world. Fine visual effects and suspenseful tale in space harmed by world pranks of poor boy Boyle who preposterously desires to undermine the mission. Cast includes Tim Matheson, Charlton Heston, Peter Boyle, and Annabel Schofield. (112 minutes, 1990)
Rush Hour: The daughter of a Chinese diplomat has been kidnapped. The diplomat sends in Hong Kong detective Lee (Jackie Chan). He winds up joining forces with off beat L.A.P.D. cop Carter. With the F.B.I. botching the investigation, this rag tag pair comes in to save the day.
For Richer or Poorer: Very wealthy New Yorkers Allen and Alley, whose matrimony is on the stones, are made to take it on the lam while they’re implicated of tax fraud and hide out on an Amish farm, where they make believe to be blood brothers of farmer Sanders. Ruined and lethargic, they’re made to do tough, truthful work, and essentially materialize to like it. Cast includes Tim Allen, Kirstie Alley, Jay O. Sanders, Michael Lerner, Carrie Preston, and Katie Moore. (115 minutes, 1997)
Drop Zone: Peter Nessip, and his brother Terry are US Marshall’s escorting criminal Earl Leedy to a high security prison. A daring rescue has the resuers blow a hole in the plane and parachute to freedom, taking Leedy with them. Terry is suck out the hole in the plane also, but plummets to his death. Peter is now after Leedy and his gang, and must enter the world of dare devil skydiving to catch them.
