Seizure: Rock’s directorial debut is trendy although incoherent shocker in which novelist Frid, his family and buddies are made to play games of death by a trio of wicked weirdoes who may or may not be his bad dreams coming to life. Cast includes Jonathan Frid, Martine Beswick, Christina Pickles, Joe Sirola, Herve Villechaize, Mary Woronov, and Troy Donahue. (93 minutes, 1974)
Nomad: On the desolate steps of 18th-century Kazakhstan, in a battle for freedom, mystic combatant Oraz saves a child descended from Genghis Khan who is destined to join the country as “Mansur”. Historical fable has nasty sabers on horseback fights and excellent production layout (locals being used as add-ons) however trudging storytelling. Cast includes Kuno Becker, Jay Hernandez, Jason Scott Lee, and Mark Dacascos. (110 minutes, 2005)
Frequency: John Sullivan lost his father thirty years ago. He is still affected by the loss. Somehow with the use of his father’s old ham radio, he can communicate with his father, back when his father was still alive. He warns his father of the fire that would kill him. This saves his father but sets off new events that now must be resolved, or John’s mother will die.
Nightmare on Elm Street: A few teenagers find they’re all having bad dreams about the same bad guy, scar faced Fred Krueger, a sort of ghost who can enter their dreams at will and attack them while they sleep. It’s up to Nancy Langenkamp to try to stop Freddy Krueger. Cast includes Lionel Atwill, Fay Wray, Glenda Farrell, Allen Vincent, Blunt McHugh, and Arthur Edmund Carewe. (77 minutes, 1933)
From Justin to Kelly: Drink sunscreen rather than sitting through this insipid lyrical piece made for Television’s American Hero megastars, which finds them trying to make a love connection throughout Miami spring break. No one was anticipating Shakespeare, however there’s less weight here than in an Archie comic magazine. Cast includes Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Katherine Bailess, Anika Noni Rose, Greg Siff, Brian Dietzen, and Jason Yribar. (81 minutes, 2003)
The Truman Show: Truman Burbank starts to get a strange feeling. He can’t quite explain it, but something just isn’t right. It turns out that Truman is right. In fact everyone else in town is an actor, and every day is The Truman Show.
Blessed Event: Tracy’s most renowned role has him as a Walter Winchell mock-up whose fiery line makes him famous but also lands him in hot water. Cast includes Roy Del Ruth.
