If you are a business consultant these days then you really need to make sure that you have a solid marketing plan that includes a well built up online strategy. Most businesses these days have a team or budget set aside just for online activities and marketing. If you want to compete with these people then you’ll need to be into online marketing to some extent yourself.

Needless to say business consultants that don’t understand how to market themselves in the online space are going to have lots of trouble competing with web savvy business competition. Most professionals these days understand how to market themselves on the web to some extent.

So now that I have hopefully convinced you that the internet is the place to be doing your marketing these days it’s time to dig in a bit and try and explain some of the basics. Before you get started you need to make sure that you at least have a fairly well designed blog or website setup to represent your company.

I want to start off by talking about publishing articles that you write all over the internet for maximum exposure and a great build up of web links pointing towards your home page or blog. This method has been around for a few years now and works great. It’s called article marketing. If you haven’t heard of it yet make sure you look into it because it’s a proven method of internet marketing that works great for consultants.

If you’re serious about marketing yourself online then the next thing that I would recommend to get your voice out is to set up a blog and make sure that you do it often. Not only do search engines love blog but so will your customers. They will respect you and see you as a trusted individual or consultant. If your consulting firm does not set up a blog then you’ll be behind a lot of your competitors because many of them will definitely have one set up.

Another method of online marketing that I would recommend any business consultant to get into would be through social media. Social media has literally exploded over the last few years and everybody is into now. If you join and participate in some of the more popular spaces online you’ll meet hundreds of potential consulting clients for your next business project.
